Eight primary schools in Westminster fought a competitive battle to see who would be crowned Primary Panathlon Champions recently at Moberley Sports Centre.
A few hours and eight sporting activities later, 54 children from across the borough had competed with much enthusiam and skill and a great time was had by all.
With the scores very tight, our overall champions were crowned: Barrow Hill Junior School (pictured).
Alaa Drissi from the School said, “I’d first of all like to thank Panathlon for supporting our journey, we’ve had a fantastic time and the children have had an amazing morning having loads of fun. We’ve now won this prestigious trophy!”

There was glowing feedback from other schools as well. Kate MacCarter said, “We are buzzing! We had the best, best time, thank you!”
Jessica Green from St. Mary’s Bryanstone Square School added, “It was a great event and the children loved taking part!”
The leaders of the event were volunteers from one of our funding partners, Aspen, who have supported Panathlon for two years and ten of their staff gave up their time and delivered the sporting activity in the morning and then also stayed on for the afternoon’s secondary competition.

Crystal from Aspen said, “It’s been a great day here at Panathlon and it’s been really rewarding for all the Aspen volunteers, thanks for the opportunity to see the young people really enjoying themselves. It allows us to see something different from sitting at our desks each day and get to engage with people who we’d never meet otherwise.”
Another special guest was Daphne Schrager, GB Paralympian and winner of a silver medal in cycling at the recent Paris Paralympics.
Daphne said, “Panathlon is a great opportunity for everyone with a disability or additional needs to give sporting activities a go. It was heartwarming seeing the excitement from the young competitors and the teachers and staff from the schools too!”
The final results were
1 Barrow Hill
2 Essendine
3 St Thomas
4 College Park
5 St Marys Bryanstone
6 Edward Wilson
7 All Souls
Thanks to our colleagues at Active Westminster who co-ordinated all the school activity.

And to our volunteers for the day,
