The fourth heat of the first round of the 2009 London Panathlon Challenge inter borough school sports competition for disabled athletes, held on Monday 23 March at the West London Academy, Northolt, UB5 5LQ was won by the team from Brent. They beat rival teams from Ealing, Hammersmith and Hillingdon to earn a place in the All London final in June.
In a splendid day of sporting competition, all 4 teams played their part in making it a huge success. The sports were Boccia, New Age Kurling, Polybat, Table Cricket, Flat and Field Athletics. Brent won 5 of the events outright, helping them to a significant total of 62 points. The teams from Hammersmith and Ealing fought closely for 2nd place, with Hillingdon finishing fourth.
The event was generously funded by the Football Foundation, the Jack Petchey Foundation and the Peter Harrison Foundation who all support the Panathlon charity.
Ian Rose, GB Paralympian athlete and silver medal winner at Judo in Athens in 2004, was on hand to award medals to the young competitors and offer some inspiring words of congratulations.
