Today Panathlon visited Columbus School to coach 3 classes in the Panathlon sports. We delivered one hour sessions to each class. The first class from Key Stage 1 focused on Boccia and then New Age Kurling; using drills to learn the sport. We started with the Primary Panathlon version first and then progressed into playing a basic game. These children have never played the Panathlon Sports before and did very well to learn two sports in the hour session.

The next group, a Key Stage 2 group, contained many who have been involved in this years Panathlon competitions. We concentrated on their Boccia skills. They improved rapidly and their accuracy by the end of the session was very impressive. The last group, a Key Stage 3 group, a wheelchair specific group, so we taught them the complicated Slalom course which they all did incredily well on. They also tried Precision Bean Bag & New Age Kurling.

“Our Panathlon Day was great. All the students took part in a variety of sports such as Boccia, Kurling and Salom Races. The students learnt lots of new skills and also developed knowledge of rules for a variety of games. James was excellent in delivering his sessions and we would love to have him back soon. Thank you for a great day, we look forward to playing these sports more often.”
