Panathlon’s huge growth in Lancashire is set to continue – that’s if the West Lancashire Sports Partnership have anything to do with it.
Panathlon enjoyed a boom in the Lancashire area last year, with 2,028 young people getting involved in 2023/24 – 1,759 participants and 269 young leaders across 41 events including Ten Pin Bowling, Primary Panathlon , Panathlon Xtend, Boccia and Kurling across the county.
In West Lancashire alone, Panathlon delivered Ten Pin Bowling, Multi Sports and Multi Skills events for over 130 SEND children from 16 schools across Key Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 – plus the Lancashire Panathlon Swimming Gala in which the area’s primary special school took part.
And because last year was such a success, the West Lancashire Sports Partnership are extending the number of sports and events they provide throughout 2024/25.
“The built-in pathway structure is highly motivating for our young people, several schools progressing on to represent West Lancashire in Lancashire County and North West Events organised by Panathlon,” says Charles Hart of the West Lancashire Sports Partnership.
“Another great impact of the work Panathlon do is the opportunity for leadership experiences. They have trained many of our leaders to assist in the delivery of their events and also ran an Inclusive Session at our Leadership Academy Conference which was extremely well received by pupils and staff alike.
“The events are of extremely high quality and staff reported a huge impact on their children in terms of enjoyment of physical activity and confidence and willingness to take part, in addition to the opportunity to reward success through medals, trophies and pathway event progression.
“As a result of the success and the efficient, professional delivery of Panathlon we are extending the number of sports and events this year.”
