HI there, its Pete from Disability Sports Coach (DSC), just making my way back from Dover where the latest Panathlon Training has been happening.

With 21 delegates (8 teachers and 13 Sports Leaders)  all ready and eager to learn about Panathlon and the sports which in Kent include; New Age Kurling, Boccia, Athletics, Polybat and Table Cricket.  Roger (another one of DSCL trainers) kicked off the day and introduced the sports and what Panathlon was about.  After that they all had a chance to play the sports and to ask any questions, which as this was their first Panathlon, they had plenty!  The morning session of “training” the coaches and the leaders, we also had 4 students from the school, who where perfect subjects for Roger and myself on how to coach people in the sports using different techniques.  The delegates, all really appreciate this, as it could put theory into practice!

In the afternoon Dover School Sports Partnership and DSC has arranged for a mini Panathlon “festival” with over 50 children from special schools around the partnership, to be involved in some of the sports that they would take part in on the main Panathlon competition on 4 May.  The sports included Polybat, Boccia, Precision Bean bag and Long jump.  The delegates from the morning training led the event and managed all the sports “stations”, this again really inspired them and yet another opportunity to put theory into practice!

Both the children and leaders said that they can’t wait until their Panathlon event on the 4th May!!

DSC and Panathlon, look forward to seeing you there!!!!
