On the 28th January, Panathlon held the South London Swim Competition at Downham Health and Leisure Centre in Bromley. The 52 students in attendance had the opportunity to take part in either individual races, team challenges or both, and worked together to accumulate the highest score for their team over the course of the day.

7 Teams from Parkwood Hall School (Kensington & Chelsea), Majorie Mclure (Bromley), Riverside (Bromley), The Priory (Croydon), Woodside (Bexley), Charlton Park Academy (Charlton) and Brent Knoll (Lewisham) worked extremely hard in the pool and gave their best efforts. As a result the standard was high and the overall points reflected just how close the competition was.

The result came down to the last “raft race” where Parkwood Hall achieved 3rd place which was just enough to secure them the Gold medal for the day. Close behind were Brent Knoll School, and Riverside School respectively.

A big thanks must go to our leaders from Langley Park School who helped run each of the events and gave detailed demonstrations for all.

“We wanted to thank you and your team for an amazing event today at Downham. Our kids absolutely loved it and had a great time. We’ll certainly see you again for the next event”
James Robertson, Teacher at Riverside School

“This was our first Panathlon event and we weren’t sure what to expect. Today we got the silver medal, our students had a fantastic day and it’s been great to see the format and how Panathlon events work. It’s been really well organised and we’ll be sure to attend many more- Thank you”
Naomi Vann, Teacher at Brent Knoll

“The gala was a fantastic experience for our pupils , who just don’t get the time in a deeper pool than our cosy hydro. They really had to show spirit, courage, determination and of course a little team work! They loved it.”
Guy Wilkins, Teacher at Majorie Mclure
