On the 8th May 2014, Panathlon held a Primary competition for East London Boroughs held at the Terrence Macmillan Stadium in Newham. The event hosted 123 students from 15 different schools, across 4 London boroughs; Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Tower Hamlets and Bexley.

Due to the high demand, two separate competitions ran simultaneously in which all children had the opportunity to compete across the 8 Primary Panathlon events; Mess Football Skills, Boccia Blast, New Age Kurling, Volleybat, Table Cricket, Parachute Popcorn, Flight Path and Precision Beanbag.

The competition was extremely close throughout with a number of schools pulling together as a team and cheering each other on to achieve the highest possible score. At the half way mark, the purple team from Tolgate School were looking strong, whilst the blue team from Ravenscroft School pulled out an exceptional score in table cricket. However, by the end of the competition there were 3 teams on either side who stood out from their opposition. In pool A, the gold medal went to Porthway School, silver went to Hartley School whilst the third place went to a well deserving Tolgate School. Meanwhile in Pool B, the clear winners by almost 30 points, were Scott Wilkie Primary, ahead of Ravenscroft School in silver and Carpenters Primary in third.

A big thank you must go to the leaders from Cumberland School who showed maturity and enthusiasm throughout the day on each of their disciplines.

There is real demand in East London for more of these events. Today we have run a double header and there are many teams who have not been able to attend due to space. The feedback from the teachers has been great and for many of these students this is the first time ever they have competed on behalf of their school.” Steve Peaty, Newham
