98 Students from 17 different East London schools from Newham, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge and Havering took part in the Panathlon Challenge today at Langdon Academy. This was the second East London competition in the first round, following on from last weeks competition in Hackney.

The scores were incredibly close, between the ever competitive rivals of Newham and Barking and Dagenham, both previous London Final winners. However the early running was made by surprise outsiders, Redbridge who won the first few sports completed, being Boccia & Table Cricket. Barking & Dagenham triumphed in  Polybat and the Athletics Field competitions, with the consistent Newham winning Kurling and the Athletics Races. This meant that only 2 points separating the 3 top teams overall, with Newham just edging it with 48 points, and Barking & Dagenham and Redbridge both with 46 points. in tied situations we go to ‘countback’ and count the individual first, second and third places, and in this case, Barking & Dagenham edged 2nd place by a high number of 2nd places.
