On Friday 29th November Panathlon visited Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls located in Ealing, where we delivered the Lord’s Taverners Boccia Young Officials Course to 10 Sports Leaders, These students are all taking their Level 2 Sports Leaders qualification and will be officiating at the competition on December 3rd. Some of the group have previously been involved in a community service project run at Castlebar School, which is also a Panathlon school in Ealing. So some had disability experience, although not necessarily in sport.
Despite it being Friday afternoon, the group were very attentive and picked up the rules of Boccia as quick and as professionally as I’ve seen before.
Fay Ibidapo said, “Today was fun and I really want to play the game again. Boccia is a great sport and is fun for all. I look forward to being an official next Tuesday.”
Another Sports Leader said, “This was a really helpful course. I am now confident that I have the skills necessary for Tuesday’s competition. I didn’t realise I could get a qualification from the course. A fantastic opportunity.”
