Schools across Cumbria competed in Panathlon events last week – with hosts Furness College also providing the Young Leaders that made it all possible.
Across two days, primary and secondary schools alike took part in the events – with over 100 children taking part in the Primary Panathlon Pathway competition, and 24 more taking part in the non-pathway Key Stage 1 event. Three teams of secondary-school students competed in the Xtend event.
It was all supported by long-time backers the Rotary Club of Furness.
And everyone had a brilliant time, with Kerry Packham, of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School, Dalton-in-Furness, saying afterwards: “We are really proud of how the children performed at the event. They showed great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the morning, and it was fantastic to see their confidence grow as the activities went on.”
“What a fantastic few days!” said event manager Craig Vickers. “The energy and enthusiasm from the pupils, leaders and teachers across the two days in Barrow-in-Furness was amazing. Seeing students from as young as 5 years of age through to the 17-year-old young leaders enjoy and contribute so positively to a thoroughly inclusive and active experience was really heartwarming. It was a pleasure to be part of.”
