Clean sweep for Enfield as they seal London Final place

March 15th, 2019

One hundred and sixty competitors representing 15 schools took part in the North London Panathlon finals today at Westway Sports Centre – all aiming to win a place at our showpiece London Final in the Olympic Park in the summer.

In the Champions half of the draw, Enfield put in a flawless performance to win a full house of six out of six sports and qualify breezily for the London Final with a maximum 60 points.

In second place came Haringey on 40 points, third was the team from Hammersmith & Fulham on 36, with  Team Brent fourth on 32. The full scoreboard can be seen here.

Valerie Harnett, the team manager from Enfield, said: “We brought a young team today and for most of them it was their first time at Panathlon. But they immediately got a huge buzz and rose to the occasion. They all performed incredibly well.

“Panathlon is brilliant for the children with disabilities as they feel part of something special. We can’t wait to get to the final at the Olympic Park.”

Jamil, a competitor from the victorious Enfield team ,added: “I’m so excited, this is a really amazing day. It is really good to challenge yourself against other competitors.”

In the Plate Final, the team from Westminster sealed a place in our London Plate Final for the first time after holding off strong competition from Camden who only finished two points behind them. Harrow and Barnet were equally competitive and split by just two points in third and fourth respectively. (results here)

Our Young Leaders today were from two schools, Kingsbury High and Barnhill, and both performed incredibly well under the pressured circumstances.

Many thanks must also go to our colleagues from Investigo who have chosen Panathlon as their ‘Charity of the Year’ in 2019 and are raising funds for us throughout the year.

One volunteer, Charandeep Chana, said: “It was an absolutely amazing day. Panathlon is an amazing charity that works with disabled young competitors. It felt very rewarding working with such inspiring young children. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to volunteer and be part of a very special charity.”
