The team from Beacon Hill School in Thurrock went one better than last year, when they lost out to Suffolk, to win the East of England regional final today at Braintree College.
Four Counties fought a tight and competitive day from Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex and Suffolk who had each won their respective county championships in 2015, battled it out to be the best of the best.
One remarkable performance was Brandon (pictured above left) from Essex who furthered his own national Panathlon javelin record by 1m 40cms, taking the new record to a staggering 27m 90cms. Not to be underestimated in the throwing events, he also only just missed the national shot putt record by only 45cm, throwing 14.40cms.
The leaders from Braintree College did a great job in officiating all the sports.After strong performances winning 4 of the sports on offer, Table Cricket, Polybat, Field athletics and flat athletics, the East of England champions are Essex – compromising of the team from Beacon Hill school in Thurrock.
Brandon Mullin, team co-ordinator for Essex said, “This is fantastic for us ot not only be County Champions, but also to now beat all the other counties in the East of England.”
“Panathlon has brought a great competitive edge to sport in our school and our children can’t wait to defend our Essex title starting next month.”
