On the 23rd April, Panathlon held the first Primary Panathlon competition for deaf students, 37 of them competed from schools in Haringey, Hounslow and Newham. Each team had the opportunity to take part in 8 primary specific activities throughout the day. The event, which was part funded by the National Wembley Stadium Trust and the Ovingdean Foundation, gave students a chance to socialise with deaf children from other schools and develop a range of new skills whilst competing for the gold.
After a hard fought competition, both gold and silver medals went to teams from Blanche Neville School in Haringey, with the third spot eventually going to Norwood Green Junior School in Hounslow, just ahead of Selwyn School, Newham.
A big thank you must go to the 17 leaders from Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School who did a fantastic job officiating each of the activities. It was their first time at a Panathlon event and we hope to have them help out at many more in the future.
“Today has been great- the children have tried a variety of new events and it’s been fantastic for them to mix with the other students. The leaders who helped out were really enthusiastic and friendly towards the children and it made each activity run smoothly.”
