Panathlon held its first golf fundraising event at The Grove in Hertfordshire on Wednesday (May 19).

Guests took part in a competition with prizes for top individual, best pair, best team and spot prizes for nearest the pin and longest drive.

Overall fundraising from the day stands so far at over £10,000. Panathlon would like to extend huge thanks to the day’s sponsors including River & Mercantile, Optima-life and Moloney Search.

Ashley Iceton, Panathlon CEO, said: “This is a fantastic amount raised for our charity and we will put this to good use in the next year by providing many opportunities for children with disabilities and special needs to get active through Panathlon competitions.”

Fundraising included a raffle with a star prize of a TaylorMade putter worth £200 (donated by Bluebay Asset Management) which added over £1,000 to the kitty.

Alongside this was an online auction (with many thanks to our friends at Bid_in Group) with participants bidding for tickets for major events, signed Essex CCC bats and shirts (courtesy of the Woodland Group) and an England rugby union shirt signed by the entire squad which was donated by Jamie George, England hooker and soon to be British and Irish Lion.

Fortunately, after a wet start, the sun came out and it made for a pleasant day in the open air for the 32 players taking part.

Overall it was a strong performance from the fourball BlueBay team that cleaned up on best individual (Rob Lambert), best pair (Rob Lambert and Philip Steel) and best Team (pictured left) of Michael Silk, Mark Harrison, Rob Lambert and Philip Steel.

Paul Smith from EllisKnight International Recruitment said: “It was an incredible day on a beautiful course and a very well run event. I was delighted to have finished third and also to have come within inches (maybe closer to four feet, but these are minor details!) of a hole in one.

“It was great to meet so many amazing people and I’m already looking forward to supporting the Panathlon charity more closely in the future.”

The fundraising page for donations is still open here.
