Our girls’ Merseyside football tournament at Greenbank Sports Academy saw us join forces with Liverpool County FA and Liverpool John Moores University to give 22 girls from three schools a fantastic experience.
James Nolan from Liverpool County FA refereed all the matches while three first year students from John Moores Uni volunteered as Young Leaders.

Due to a last minute withdrawal on the morning of the competition, the opening session’s matches were between four mixed teams from three schools. These friendlies were a good warm-up for the afternoon competition as some of the girls had not played much football before.
The girls enjoyed the opportunity to play football and get involved in competitive matches. About half of them were new to football tournaments and the others had not been in a tournament for a long time due to the pandemic.
It was a great opportunity for the girls to take part in an inclusive football event that brought together girls of all abilities to play together and show good sportsmanship.
Clare Mount won the Girls Football Section 1 against Woodchurch with Alt Bridge in third place.
