The Essex Multi-Sport Final took place today at Basildon Sports Village, with teams battling it our to be our 2018 Essex Champions.
Teams had qualified for the final from the earlier rounds which took place in March. Harlow and the joint team of Southview and Doucecroft qualified from the North semi-final and Oakview and Thurrock from the North semi-final. Sadly however Thurrock were not able to be with us on the day, meaning there would be a new Essex champion crowned.
Harlow started well with wins in Boccia and Polybat, but Oakview put up a strong performance with a win in Table Cricket and second places in Boccia, Kurling & Polybat. The joint team of Southview and Doucecroft did incredibly well with a win and gold medals in Kurling.
But Harlow’s strength in depth of their team pulled them away in the athletics field events and ensured their first victory in Essex for a good few years.
Brandon, from Team Harlow said, “We did very, very well, and all we did was work together as a team. I’m so happy with my medal!” Teacher Charlotte Turner continued, “It feels amazing to win today, the children take so much away from these events, encouraging each other and showing some great team work!”
The two remaining teams of Oakview and the joint team of Southview and Doucecroft finished with the same number of points, but the team from Southview and Doucecroft just edged it on countback, with 2 individual wins to 1, finishing in runners up spot.
Andrea Griffiths, sport co-ordinator from Douncecroft School said,” It’s great to finish second in Essex and it’s fabulous to work with Southview school. It has become a great partnership very quickly. We look forward to working together with more success next year !”
