St Vincents’ Primary School (Pictured above) won the first Hull Riding Primary Panathlon at the Costello Stadium. St Vincents’ which had two teams on the day, saw their Spitfires team beat 6 other teams from across Hull area to be crowned champions.
Mr Plumb , PE lead of Runners-up Biggin Hill (Pictured below) said “This is the first time some of the children have won medals. We will present the team in front of assembly next week with the trophy, their silver medals and certificates. It will be huge for this group of children.”
Kirsty Cooper of Craven Primary Aacdemy said, “We had one child Finlay who didn’t want to come, he said it would be so boring, he now wants to know when Panathlon is on again and wants to be involved in sport.”
All teachers commented numerous times that children with a disability in a mainstream school never gets picked to be in a sports team. It is fantastic that Panathlon does something for these disabled young people who deserve to be part of a team and be included.
Mark Arridge, Director of Sport at St Mary’s School, the lead instigator in helping get this area involved said, ” I just wanted to say thank you for a fantastic day today – the kids (and staff) loved it! Our range of children enjoyed all aspects of the day. Thanks again and can’t wait to do it again.”
Leaders from St Mary’s participated as officials and Mark again said “ What an experience again for these young leaders, Panathlon certainly provides them with a opportunity not normally afforded to them.”
