A dozen swimmers raised funds for Panathlon by taking to the refreshing waters of the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park on Saturday.
Nearly 5,000 swimmers in total took part in the Swim Serpentine event in various distances from half a mile to six miles in total, with a water temperature of a ‘tropical’ 18 degrees at the venue that hosted the marathon swimming and triathlon at London 2012 Olympics.
This didn’t deter the brave swimmers who were raising funds for Panathlon – such as Nadjie Butler, who said pre-race, “I am doing the two-mile swim and will be thinking of those children that will benefit from my fundraising during my tough moments.”
She completed the two-mile course in just over three hours and said afterwards, “It was an amazing day and I enjoyed being in the water with lots of other swimmers raising funds for incredible charities. I was inspired by the work you do and that kept me going!”
Nadjie has so far raised an incredible £1,600 – see her fundraising page here.

Thanks to all our swimmers on the day and the thousands of pounds you have raised which will go towards Panathlon providing swimming opportunities and competitions for over 2,500 children with SEND every year.
The next event up for raising funds for the Panathlon charity is the Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 11, where 25 runners will be part of Team Panathlon.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone for all your fundraising.
