Congratulations to the team from Jenner Park Primary School, winners of the Welsh National Final for ten-pin bowling – and thank you to David Morris, headteacher, and Laura Downing, resource base manager, for this lovely article about their triumph.

Pupils from Jenner Park Primary School Complex Needs Resource Base enjoyed a memorable day at the first round of the Panathlon inter-school bowling  competition in Cardiff, proudly representing their school. Thanks to the event being completely free, every pupil had the opportunity to take part, making the experience inclusive for all.  After winning this round, the children celebrated but had no idea there was more to come.

On being told they would be moving on to bowl at Cwmbran in the finals, the children were elated.

The excitement began long before the final of the competition started, with pupils eager to visit another town and compete against schools from across South Wales. They were pleased to see so many other young players taking part and embraced the competitive atmosphere while remaining respectful to others. The experience strengthened their teamwork as they supported one another with a shared determination to bring the trophy home.

Throughout the competition, pupils demonstrated impressive sportsmanship and determination. They encouraged their teammates, celebrated every ball, and especially enjoyed cheering each time someone scored a strike. Their patience and team spirit shone through from start to finish.

When the results were announced, the pupils applauded and cheered for all participating schools before celebrating their own victory as champions. The celebrations continued on the journey home, especially when a phone call confirmed that Jenner Park had won the overall competition.

All pupils were delighted to receive certificates, medals and a trophy to take home to their school.

Back at school, the pupils proudly shared their achievements during assembly, dedicating the win to the whole of Jenner Park. Their display of sportsmanship was warmly received, and the entire school community joined in congratulating them on their success.

For children with Specialist ALN, a competition such as this provides them with a hugely important experience, not only enjoying being with other children and having fun, but also realising that they can succeed and achieve great things.  This is an amazing competition, organised and run by amazing people…long may it continue.
