An incredible 233 students from 18 different schools representing 12 area teams took part in the first round of the Kent Panathlon in May. Previous to the 3 days of competitions, Panathlon had trained 46 Young Leaders from 4 schools to officiate at the 3 events and all successfully qualified as Young Panathlon Officials.

The winning team on each of the 3 first round competitions would qualify for the Kent Final on the 11th June, with the best runner up from the 3 days also. The 3 days saw some fierce competition and outstanding performances. The highlights included Malling and Sevenoaks scoring an unbeatable 6-0 in one end of boccia and Herne Bay’s polybat team dropping only one set in the whole competition.

For a full set of results for all three days see here.  To see all the photos see our Gallery page here.

One of the great quotes we received from the 3 days in Kent was from a parent who reported that  “My 12 year old daughter attended a competition in Kent yesterday, I wanted to say a big huge thank you to everyone for giving all the children that get the chance to attend these competitions/events. My daughter came home with the biggest smile after thoroughly enjoying her day (and slept well!!)  She gets upset and frustrated at having to watch her peers doing sports that she can’t take part in, this gave her the chance to be part of something special. So THANK YOU….”

The final line up for the final on the 11th June is our 3 winners Dartford, Ashford and Herne Bay with the best 2nd placed team, Sheppey & Sittingbourne.

A big thank you to our funders, Charles Harris, Garfield Weston and Kent Sport.
