Panathlon have picked up where we left off from 2014 beginning the term training young leaders to officiate at upcoming events in London. A total of 34 leaders from 3 schools have been trained ready for the competitions in the coming months.
On Thursday 8th January we were at Chessington Community College training a group of 22 leaders from Chessington CC, all last year GCSE PE students and 3 leaders from St Philips School.
Today we were at Haberdashers Aske Knight Academy, a new school for the Multi-Sport competition, involving 9 leaders. They will combine with Marjorie McClure leaders at competition in a months time.
The leaders picked up all the sports very quickly and this helped them to understand how Panathon works. The competitions now start on Thursday for the North London schools, so looking forward the action starting and see how this years leaders shine.
Tina Descombes, teacher at Haberdashers Aske Knights Academy said, “It was a great session thanks for your time. I know the girls really appreciated receiving the training.”
Tina went on to add, “Officiating at the Panathlon event will further advance the confidence and organisation skills of this enthusiastic group of young leaders. It will help to forge leadership pathways in the future. Todays training event was engaging and great fun, the leaders really got to grips with the running and rules of the events and are fired and ready for the main event in February.’
