A total of seventy-three children representing six local authorities took part at Greenbank Sports Academy, competing in a very highly competitive Panathlon event with Sefton winning the competition.

The event, which included Boccia, table tennis, football, table cricket, athletics and slalom involved children from Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, St Helens, Knowsley and Halton.

After an exciting day of sports, Sefton were declared gold medallist with 48 points, with silver awarded to Liverpool on 42 points and Knowsley in bronze medal position on 40 points. Congratulations to the Sefton team and to all the competitors from across Merseyside who took part.

This was the closest finish across all the teams we have had for this event which has now been going for over 15 years! This was reflected in the scores and shows the amount of hard work teachers contribute to prepare the children for the day.

Steve Sullivan from Greenbank Sports Academy said, “This event showcases the level of ability for participants and allows school teams to talent ID potential stars of the future especially those children who were competing for the first time and we are extremely grateful to Panathlon Foundation for supporting this event.”
He added: “Overall the event was another great success bringing together Education, volunteers from the Greenbank Sports Academy, Liverpool John Moores University and individuals who gave their time to support this excellent multi-sport event that the children thoroughly enjoyed.”
