Yesterday the last of the 8 first round competitions in London took place, with at Chessington Community College hosting the last 4 boroughs to compete this year – Kingston, Merton, Sutton and Wandsworth.
Chessington Community College were one of the original schools back in 1996 when Panathlon started and its great that they are still hosting 20 years later!
The day involved 74 competitors from 10 schools. Merton dominated the competition with impressive displays across the sports, only dropping 4 points overall, in Kurling (silver) and Flat Athletics (2nd overall). All the rest of the sports Merton won. Wandsworth were solid throughout the day and finished 2nd overall taking the gold in Kurling and Flat Athletics.
A full breakdown of results here.
Outstanding team performances included Merton’s Boccia team scoring 18 points overall and Merton’s Kurling Team winning all their matches including winning a tie-breaker end with Sutton. Outstanding individual performances included Santini from Sutton’s precision bean bag throw of 54 and Joshua from Wandsworth powerchair slalom gold medal , in a competition where we had 8 powerchair users.
