Following the successes of the West, South and East London competitions earlier in the year which involved 176 disabled swimmers, Panathlon delivered the North London competition on the 25th of June. This event saw 48 students from 6 different teams competing from 3 North London boroughs. Teams from the Village School, Manor School, Oaklodge, Riverside, The Vale and Northway competed in 4 individual races, before undertaking team challenges including the “Treasure Hunt, Raft Race and Ball Target Race”.
After a fantastic start from the Manor Park Team and The Vale, they struggled slightly in some of the team challenges. This was in complete contrast to the teams from Riverside and Oaklodge who soon began to up their game. It was Riverside who eventually went on to take the gold with 3 wins throughout the day, 3 points clear of Oaklodge in 2nd place. Third place was tightly fought with Manor Park pinching the bronze medal away from the Vale by one point!
After a great day of competitive swimming, the teachers gave some fantastic feedback that can be seen below, whilst the students had a well-earned rest! We look forward to seeing the teams again at future swimming competitions.
“Thank you all for the Panathlon Swimming Competition today, our kids and staff really enjoyed it and thought the format and atmosphere was just perfect. Well done to everyone involved.” Trudi Dingwall, Teacher at Oaklodge School.
“This has been our first ever Panathlon event and it was great and extremely well organised. It was pitched perfectly with the activities at just the right level for the ability of our swimmers. We’ll be sure to come to many more Panathlon events in the future.” Samuel Saliba, Teacher at Manor School.
Thank you to you all, look out for more swimming opportunities in the new academic year.
