Abingdon School hosted Oxfords first Panathlon Multi Sport Panathlon event at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, where 47 students attended from 6 local schools. The schools from Fitzwaryn, Mable Pritchard, John Watson, Kingfisher, Springfield and Bishopswood made up 3 teams who battled it out across 6 sports including Boccia, New Age Kurling, Table Cricket, Polybat, Field Athletics and finally relay races.

Each sport was strongly contested, but Kurling went right down to the wire with the Yellow team just pinching the gold. Eventually though, Mable Pritchard School and Fitzwaryn School who comprised the red team were clear winners, although it was the final relay race which decided the 2nd and 3rd placings.  John Watson School and Kingfisher School in green had scored consistenly throughout the day but ended up taking the bronze with Springfield School and Bishopswood in yellow pinching the silver. Our Oxforshire Champions from Mable Pritchard and Fitzwaryn will now compete for their county at Stoke Mandeville in November. To see a full set of results see here.

A big thank you must go to the Young Leaders from Abingdon School who officiated each of the events and ensured the day ran smoothly. We look forwards to next year for more fantastic competition between these 6 schools who really brought out the best of one another.

“We had one student who was really struggling with Kurling but you saw him improve gradually throughout the day and his last shot was great. That’s what it’s all about- seeing improvements in our students, both behaviour and sporting performance.” Tim Walker, Teacher at Springfield School
