Panathlon were in Hampshire this week running an event in Portsmouth involving 6 schools and 59 competitors at the Mountbatten Centre.

The teams competing were: Great Oaks & Icknield, Baycroft & St. Francis, Mary Rose, and, Hollywater.

Supporting the event were twenty Portsmouth University first year sports students, who lead the competition as part of their practical assignments for their course.
The competition was close between the Baycroft & Ickneild teams, the 2 schools that have represented Hampshire in the South England regionals over the years, competing at the top of the table.
Baycroft & St Francis team won the Boccia & Polybat, whilst Icknield & Great Oaks took the Cricket & Kurling. It came down to the races in the afternoon, that gave Icknield (Pictured above) the victory overall.

Madeleine Campbell, who organised the competition in partnership with us said, “The Panathlon is a great event for us, enabling us to involve students with disabilities in a fun & supportive environment.”
“The students learn a lot from this experience. It helps them with their course & gives them a framework to organise their own events in the future.
This year, we’re also running the Primary Panathlon for the first time at Havant College, upcoming in March.”

We look forward to seeing Icknield & Great Oaks again at the South England regional finals to represent Hampshire.
