Panathlon were in South London yesterday for the second first round qualifying competition. Sixty-five students from 8 schools from Southwark, Lambeth, Croydon & Lewisham competed at Haberdashers Aske Knights Academy.
23 Young Leaders from Haberdashers Aske Knights Academy and Marjorie McClure officiated throughout the day. The dynamic of having mainstream leaders working with SEN leaders worked wonderfully, with the SEN leaders able to share their experience of having played the games for years.
An outstanding performance from Croydon who scored perfect 10’s in all sports who won the competition with a maximum 60 out of 60 points. Other teams put up a good fight, making them work for the victories although, Croydon always had the extra gear to kick into.
The highlight of Table Cricket came in the Gold Medal match, Lambeth batted first and scored a formidable 299 runs, with their player 6 scoring 28 runs off their last over. In reply Croydon were on 299 with one ball to go, then scored a 4 off the last ball of the match to win the game, 303 runs. The Lewisham Table Cricket team took the most amount of wickets, including 7 in one game.
In Boccia Croydon and Lewisham tied on 2 match victories a piece, even with Lewisham beating Croydon on their fixture, however, on countback, Croydon outscored Lewisham 2:1 in their matches, so took the gold. In Kurling & Polybat Croydon’s players won all their matches. For a full set of results see here.
Impressive individual performances included Britania from Lambeth’s score of 48 in the Bean Bag, Megan from Croydon’s 38 second run in the wheelchair slalom, & both Pascal from Croydon and Jordon from Lewisham both threw the Javelin over 20 metres.
