To start the new term Panathlon visited La Swap to deliver a Panathlon Officials Course. We trained 15 students who completed the course to help towards their Level 1 Sports Leaders Certificate. These students are on their first year of the NVQ program so relished the opportunity to learn new sports and to gain a new experience in officiating disability sports.
Panathlon worked alongside Anthony Doherty, a PE teacher from a local SEN school, to deliver the session. Anthony shared many insightful Team Perspective’s on the competition, the sports and expressed to the leaders the value that the children get from Panathlon. Anthony brought particular attention to the latest Panathlon video which the leaders watched. This video includes one of Anthony’s pupils Lily, who, before coming to Panathlon four years ago was not interested in sport at all. Now she is a key member of the team and is involved in sport throughout the week.
The leaders thoroughly enjoyed the course and look forward to officiating in the competition. This is one of 21 such courses Panathlon is planning this year, qualifying over 300 Young Leaders as Panathlon officials, and giving each one many hours of practical experience. Thank you to The Jack Petchey Foundation for providing the funding for the training.
