Today at Westbourne Academy we had 80 children from 7 schools making up 4 teams from across the county all congregated for the Suffolk Panathlon Final, in partnership with School Games. All 4 teams have qualified in their previous semi-finals and were now ready to battle it out to be crowned 2014 Champions!

A tough day of competiton throughout but their was only one outstanding winner which was St Edmundsbury getting an incredible 58 points out of a maximum of 60 points, only dropping points in field athletics. The other 3 teams were all very close with 3rd and 4th place ending up on 36 points each and with nothing separating them in wins of sports we had to go to countback and compare all their scores from Polybat, Boccia, New Age Kurling and Table Cricket. See here for the full set of results.

Today wasn’t just about winning for the children, here is what a few students had to say:

“I really enjoyed meeting new people and competing with people from other schools as well as against them. I love the social side of a Panathlon as well as the fun of competing for medals!” Harry, student from Hillside Special School.

“Really great, I always look forward to Panathlon. We all join together and it doesn’t matter who you are or how good you are, you are part of a team. We get behind and encourage everyone in our team!” Gus, student from Beacon Hill.

“Today really brings home to you what it’s all about. Young people participating in sport with smiles on their faces.” Danny Thorington, Suffolk School Sports Organiser
