First taste of Panathlon for the Suffolk Schools this week with a Primary Panathlon competition for 48 students from 7 local schools. The competition, which was held at Inspire Sports Centre in Ipswich, saw Brokehall School, Wells Hall School, Whitton Primary, Riverwalk School, Beacon Hill, Birchwood and The Bridge come together to compete for the Gold Medal.
At the half way mark, Brokehall led the way with Riverwalk also in contention. Good performances in Table Cricket and Polybat meant that Beacon Hill A Team and B Team were within touching distance too. After a further 40 minutes, students went for their lunch after working hard throughout the morning, whilst the scores were totalled. Incredible determination saw Beacon Hill A team take gold, with their B team taking Silver. The bronze medal went to The Bridge who also made a fantastic comeback after impressive performances in Kurling. A big congratulations must go to all of the students who competed and we look forward to seeing them at next years event.
A huge thank you must go to the 14 leaders from Copleston High School and Suffolk One School, who were trained prior to the event and then officiated each of the activities throughout the day.
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for including us yesterday. Our student Cayden got a huge amount out of it and both members of staff who went along came in buzzing today – saying how fantastic it was. We can’t wait to be involved again next time” Dan Stagg, Teacher at Whitton School.
“We’ve had a really enjoyable day out. The students have said the day was “epic” and it’s been fantastic because they would normally be the ones who miss out on external competitions.” Kieran Lawler, Teacher at Wells Hall School
“I have had the most amazing reports back from Joe and his Teaching Assistant. Joe’s favourite activity was table cricket! Thank you very much, on behalf of everyone at the school. We appreciate the time and effort you and your team dedicated to making the event such a success.” – Mel Alexander, Deputy Headteacher Birchwood School
