This week Panathlon have delivered the Panathlon Officials Training across the 3 regions of Kent. We trained 12 leaders at Sittingbourne Community College in the central region, 10 leaders at The Malling School, the west region and 13 leaders at Ursuline College for the east region. All of these leaders will officiate in the Kent First Round Regionals at the beginning of May.
James Whitehead, Leader at Sittingbourne Community College said, “I am taking the Sports Studies Level 3 course, which I need to complete hours of practical experience with children with disabilities. Being involved in Panathlon will give me my hours of experience and also help my long-term goal to become a personal trainer when I leave college.”
Lewis Wells, Leader at Ursuline College said, “It was interesting to see how the sports were modified for children with disabilities. I am looking forward to see how well they compete in a fortnights time.” (Leaders picture below)
I have been impressed by the leaders, how they have stepped up and taken charge of the games when officiated their peers in the second section of the training. In 2 weeks time there will be 250 children from all over Kent competing against each other and these leaders will gain an insight and an experience of disability sport first hand.
