Over the past two weeks Panathlon alongside Boccia England have delivered 3 Lord Taverner Boccia Competitions in London and Essex involving 105 competitors from 16 Schools.
On the 2nd December, Panathlon delivered the Lord Taverners West London Boccia Competition. Held at Ellen Wilkinson for girls, the competition attracted a total of 43 students, comprising 10 teams, from 8 local schools.
Teams from Hounslow Heath, Coteford, Lindon Bennet, Woodlands, Jack Tizzard, The Village, Whitmore and Feltham battled it out across 2 pools, before the top 2 teams qualified from each group. Fantastic performances from The Village School saw both their A & B teams qualify for the semi-finals where they met Hounslow Heath A team (last years champions) and Jack Tizzard School.
Jack Tizzard School had an extrememly close encounter in the first of the semi-finals, but managed to overcome The Village A Team. In the other semi-final, Hounslow Heath built upon their success of the previous, yet again booking their place in the final against Jack Tizzard.
The final proved to be enthralling stuff with Hounslow Heath taking an early lead. They were cheered on from the side lines by their travelling fans complete with pom poms! However, the final end proved decisive as Jack Tizzard pulled 2 incredible shots out of the bag and secured their first Lord Taverers Boccia Championships!
Both teams will now qualify for the London Regional competition to be held in February where they will meet the qualifiers from the North, East, South and Central London Boroughs.
“Thank you for running the competition, the students had a fantastic day and loved being able to compete at a high standard against so many other schools. It will do a lot for their confidence as well as their teamwork skills. Looking forward to next year!”
